“Voice Of Odisha In 2011 Gave Me A Platform To Walk On,” Says Arpita

Every track finds a turning point. This is as much true for life as it is for analogy. For Arpita Choudhury, current sensation of Odia music industry, it was dance that proved turning point in her life. It may be hard to believe but it was dance which introduced Arpita her to art. Not many know that she is a trained Odissi dancer and music played a secondary role. But it was singing which consumed her eventually as she embarked on a magical and musical journey.

The finalist of Voice Of Odisha season 1 and an active member of Odia music industry through her association with Prarthana TV, Arpita began to grab limelight in the recent  years.

Arpita’s story of journey is intermixed with  bitter-sweet miles of experiences and she attributes her success to her family and her Gurus for all those sleepless nights of toil, and limitless support they provided.

Currently, topping the charts on YouTube with her recently released cover “Dil Ko Tumse Pyaar Hua” originally from the Bollywood film ‘Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein’, Arpita gets nostalgic recalling her journey.

My journey kicked off with Odissi dance at some random period after I won the second prize in national level solo dance competition in 2002. But destiny had its plans and I eventually got into music when I was in sixth grade. I am a disciple of Guru Sri Bibhudutta Nayak who nurtured the music in me and Guru Sri Jayanta Sarkar from whom I am presently learning (Kolkata). Although I have many state level awards and recognitions, it was Voice Of Odisha in 2011 that gave me a platform to pave on.”

Arpita added more such experiences to her list by making it into the ‘Super 100’ on Zee SaReGaMaPa in 2016 and in Indian Idol- ‘Top 60’. She has several albums of different music labels to her credit and, as a playback singer in Ollywood, she has given tracks like- Dil Ka Raja, Emiti Bi Heipare, Guddu And Guddi, Tokata Phasigala, Love Express, Suna Ra Chadhei, Champion, Devdas. She is also a Masters Degree holder in English Literature from Ravenshaw University, Cuttack.

“What I have realised is, if your worship towards your passion is true, the sky will frame itself in your palms. It is just the beginning, this lifetime has a long way to go and the effort will be on always,” she signs off.
