When Bhubaneshwar Sky Had A Reddish Hue
As the dusk approached on Friday, the Bhubaneswar sky acquired a reddish hue. Ominous as it may have seemed but extremely spectacular a sight it was. For those who could not witness it, here is what happened.
As Cyclone BulBul came closer to Odisha coast and ran parallel, its large cloud band covered Bhubaneswar and its neighboring region during the late afternoon. Following mild drizzles, a beautiful rainbow appeared during the sunset which soon gave way to a reddish-pink sky. The beautiful sight not only grabbed attention but also captured the imagination of social media which was flooded with pictures from across the city.
The rare view also triggered questions about pollution, cyclone and global warming. Some showed their concern by stating that the view must set off debates about global warming and awareness to fight the climate crisis.
In Indonesia, forest wildfire had resulted in the blood-red sky over the region on September 23. It was said to be caused by the interaction of sunlight on particles from smoke in the air which is also known as Rayleigh scattering.
Whatever scientific reason may have been behind the ‘celestial’ spectacle, the dusk view of Bhubaneswar was a sight not to be missed. Here is how MCL caught them on frames:
