When ‘Konttho’ Became The Talk Of The Town

A special screening of the much talked about Bengali film ‘Konttho’, produced by popular Odia filmmaker Akshay Parija took place at Cinepolis, Bhubaneswar on Wednesday. The film which released on 10th May is already a hit in Tollywood. It released in Bhubaneswar last Friday. The film is going to be released globally by the month of June.

Talking to MCL, Parija said, “This movie is completely based on a unique concept. We have invited here art lovers, film makers, directors, actors and producers to witness the level of concept, storytelling and film making. We definitely need such revolution in film making in our Odia film industry.”

The story of Shiboprosad Mukherjee and Nandita Roy’s directorial film revolves around a successful RJ Arjun Mallik (played by Shiboprosad) whose life suddenly takes a tragic turn when he is diagnosed with Laryngeal Cancer. His whole world comes crashing down when his profession takes a setback because of his disease while his wife Pritha, played by Paoli Dam, continues working as a voice artist. Depression takes over Arjun when he sees his wife performing and his own career crashing down in front of him. Things change when Romilla, a speech therapist, played by Jaya Ahsan, starts training Arjun to speak with his Esophageal voice thus bringing a positive turn in his life.

The film has been hugely appreciated by all eminent personalities present at the special screening. Actor Akash Dasnayak said, “It’s a new kind of story with some good message and it is very heart touching. I would like to thank Akshay sir for making such a beautiful film.”

Actor Suman Nayak said, “It’s the first ever Bengali film I watched in theatre and I would say I had a great time watching it. Some scenes are so emotional that I had tears in my eyes. I wish more and more audience come forward to witness such a wonderful movie.”

Actress Elina Samantray said, “I just loved this film. And I hope like in Bengal, people are accepting such kind of films, here also, people start appreciating such films. Then only we can make or get to act in such films.”

Director Basanta Sahu said, “I have always appreciated Shiboprosad Mukherjee’s work. His directorial film is just fantastic. I must say that even imagining such a concept in itself is challenging. I hope we will also make such films in near future.”

Actor-comedian Papu Pam Pam said, “The directors and producers here are not making such films because they are scared that people will not accept such concepts. Bengal audience is different from Odia audience. Most of them are theatre lovers. This is an experimental subject and is narrated brilliantly.”

Actor and Director Manoj Pattnaik said, “I would say, I have watched a film after a long gap and though it may be in Bengali language, I loved it. I like the choice of Akshay Parija. I feel all the Odia producers, actors and directors should watch this film and learn from this. I feel we have never tried to make such films. The directors here are busy in just copy and paste; they are not exploring the outer world, so they don’t have that knowledge to make such films. After watching such a film, we can understand how much effort has been made by the makers and actors.”
